What a Great Season!!

This is turning out to be an exciting season! Constant changes among the leaders, good golf, nice weather, great comaraderie! Thanks to all who make the League what it is!!

The results at the left are now up to date.

I'm also attempting to add a page with the weather radar for the area, we this can be a one stop page. Enjoy (if it works!).

THE DIVINE MERCY GOLF LEAGUE WILL BE SPONSORING A "BASKET" FOR THE SILENT AUCTION AT THE DIVINE MERCY DINNER DANCE THIS COMING SATURDAY MAY 26th, TO BENEFIT THE SCHOOL.
IT WILL CONTAIN NICE GOLF GOODIES AND A FREE TEAM MEMBERSHIP TO THE DMGL. COME TO THE FESTIVITIES AND CHECK IT OUT, ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER GREAT ACTIVITIES AT THE DANCE!!

Team Standings

Team 2 (Frank D and Bill C) remains in the lead though their lead has narrowed to 3 points over second place Team 4 (Art F and Mark D). The next three spots are all dependent on a make up game by Team 6.
Again, things remain tight with only about 12 points separating the top 4 teams.

Contest Winners this Week

Closest to the Pin this week was Frank DiLello!

Low Nets for this week were Art Arnold with a 29, Frank DiLello with a 33 and third went to Eric Skahn after a tie-breaker over Bill Cullen and Walt Starkey, all with a 34.

Tie-Breaker Explanation and Demo

The Score Keeper felt that since he had won two tie breakers the last two weeks, that perhaps an explanation and demo were warranted!
The League Rules state (see the "2009 DMGL Rules" link on left) that awards will be made to: THE THREE LOWEST NET ROUNDS (TIES WILL BE BROKEN BY COMPARING SCORES STARTING WITH THE NUMBER ONE HANDICAP HOLE AND USING EACH PLAYER’S FULL HANDICAP).
So this week, there were three players tied for third, each with a net score of 36. Since we played the back nine, the top four handicapped holes were 11, 18, 15, and 12 (we rarely need more than 4 to determine the winner), and were scored such:
Holes: 11 18 15 12
Art A.- 4 5 8 7
Frank D.- 5 6 6 7
Mark D.- 9 6 7 7
so Art A won the tie-breaker with a 4 on the hardest hole on the back nine (#11). Had there been a tie on that first, hardest hole, we would have gone the second hardest (#18) where he would also have won, having the lowest score, and so on. Individual handicaps did not come into play.
Hope this helps, and keeps me out of dutch!

Fees Reduced This Year

Please be sure to see Art Friedman to pay your annual dues, which have been reduced this year. $20 for regular members, $5 for subs.

We have added new, useful and fun links in the left menu. (I seem to have a particular affinity for badgolfer.com - go figure). Enjoy.

Golf Quote of the Week

Beginners Luck:
A retiree who was thinking of taking up golf went to the golf course and asked for lessons.
The pro showed him the stance and swing, then said, "Just hit the ball toward the flag on the first green."
The novice teed up and smacked the ball straight down the fairway and onto the green, where it stopped inches from the hole.
"Now what?" the fellow asked the speechless pro.
"Uh... you're supposed to hit the ball into the cup." the pro finally said, after he was able to speak again.
"Oh great! NOW you tell me." said the beginner in a disgusted tone.

Weekly Awards Policy

In order to avoid confusion and stress on the score keeper, it has been decided that only those who make the regularly scheduled rounds, AND TURN THEIR CARD IN, will qualify for the weekly awards- Closest to the Pin and Low Net.
This will not only make life easier for the webmaster, but will hopefully help encourage folks to make the regular time if at all possible.
Thanks.
